Best rank trackers in 2026 for Google and AI search

Last updated Prices checked

A rank tracker is a tool that checks where your pages appear in search results for a list of keywords, on a schedule, and records how those positions change over time. Good rank trackers let you choose the country, city and device, compare yourself with competitors, and see which search features (like map packs or AI Overviews) appear for each keyword. In 2026, the best rank trackers also track a second kind of "ranking": whether AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity mention your brand when asked about your topic.

What to track in 2026

Rank tracking used to mean one number per keyword. That number still matters, but it no longer tells you how visible you are.

  • Google positions, daily or weekly. Daily updates show the effect of a change within a day; weekly updates are fine for steady, long-term monitoring and cost less. Check the cadence before you buy. Ahrefs Rank Tracker, for example, updates weekly on every plan, while AccuRanker, Wincher, SE Ranking and Semrush track daily on their entry plans.
  • Local and map rankings. If you serve a local area, your position in Google Maps can matter more than the blue links. Not every tracker covers it.
  • SERP features. An AI Overview or a map pack above result one changes what a number-one ranking is worth. In Google Search Console, all links in an AI Overview share the single position the AI Overview occupies.
  • AI answers. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude don't have positions. They either mention you or they don't, and either cite your site or another one. Tracking this needs prompts, not keywords.
  • Competitors. Your position only means something next to the sites you're competing with.

The rank trackers

AccuRanker

Rank tracker · $224/mo (Professional)

AccuRanker is a high-volume Google rank tracker for agencies and in-house teams. The Professional plan tracks 2,000 keywords with daily updates, and the Expert plan (10,000 keywords) adds AI CTR and AI Search Volume metrics. Its AI Models feature reports CTR, AI Search Volume and AI Share of Voice for tracked keywords, and a separate product, AccuLLM, tracks brand visibility in ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Pros

  • Daily updates from the entry plan, built for large keyword sets.
  • AI-era metrics such as AI Share of Voice on tracked keywords.
  • Enterprise options for more than 25,000 keywords, including BigQuery, an unlimited write API and raw SERP HTML.
  • Annual payment gets a 10% discount.

Cons

  • The entry plan starts at 2,000 keywords, more than a small site needs, and the price reflects that.
  • AccuLLM has no published price.
  • The pricing page doesn't mention a free trial; the site offers a demo.

Best for: agencies and in-house teams tracking thousands of keywords daily.

SE Ranking

All-in-one SEO suite · $129/mo (Core)

SE Ranking is a lower-cost SEO and GEO suite with rank tracking at its core. The Core plan tracks 2,000 keywords plus 100 AI prompts daily across 10 projects. An AI Search add-on tracks AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT for 200 prompts at $89/mo.

Pros

  • Daily Google rankings and AI prompt tracking on the entry plan.
  • A full SEO suite around the tracker, so you don't need a second tool.
  • 14-day free trial with no card, including 750 tracked keywords per day and 20 AI prompts.

Cons

  • Costs more than a standalone budget tracker if rankings are all you need.
  • Broader AI engine tracking is a paid add-on.

Best for: teams that want daily rank tracking, AI prompt tracking and the rest of an SEO suite at a mid-range price. See SE Ranking vs Semrush.

Semrush

All-in-one SEO suite · $139/mo (SEO) · Free plan (10 reports/day)

Semrush's Position Tracking is part of every SEO plan. The entry SEO plan covers 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily, alongside Site Audit and the rest of the suite. For AI answers, Semrush sells an AI Visibility toolkit separately at $99/mo per domain, tracking 25 custom prompts daily across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity.

Pros

  • Daily tracking, with rankings next to the rest of your SEO data.
  • Free plan (1 demo project, 10 reports per day) and a seven-day free trial.
  • AI visibility tracking is available from the same vendor.

Cons

  • 500 keywords on the entry plan is fewer than the specialist trackers give at a similar price.
  • AI prompt tracking costs extra or needs a combined SEO + AI Search plan.
  • Extra users start at $45/mo each.

Best for: teams already using Semrush, or that want one suite for rankings, audits and research. See Semrush alternatives if you want rank tracking for less.

Wincher

Rank tracker · $49/mo (Basic (small teams))

Wincher is an affordable daily rank tracker for small teams and agencies, based in Stockholm, with keyword research and on-page tools bundled in. The entry plan tracks 500 keywords with daily updates across up to 10 websites for 1 user. On-demand ranking refreshes, multiple users, API access and white-labeled reports start on the 1,000-keyword plan. It also tracks Google Maps rankings with weekly updates.

Pros

  • One of the lowest published entry prices for daily tracking on this list.
  • Up to 10 websites on the entry plan.
  • Google Maps rank tracking included.
  • White-label reports and API access on the second plan, useful for small agencies.

Cons

  • Its pricing page lists no tracking of AI answer engines such as ChatGPT or Perplexity; its AI features are keyword suggestions and a content outliner.
  • One user on the entry plan.
  • Free trial offered, but its length isn't stated on the pricing page.

Best for: freelancers and small teams who want daily Google tracking on a budget.

Mangools

Beginner-friendly SEO toolkit · See pricing page · Free account (limited)

Mangools bundles five beginner-friendly SEO apps, and SERPWatcher is its rank tracker. SERPWatcher updates rankings weekly, or daily on the Agency plan. Pros

  • Simple interface, aimed at bloggers, small businesses and beginners.
  • Rank tracking plus keyword research and backlink tools in one subscription.
  • Free account (limited), and a full refund within 48 hours of payment.

Cons

  • Prices vary by region, so check the pricing page for yours.
  • AI tracking is limited to 5 prompts.

Best for: beginners who want an easy tracker bundled with keyword research.

Nightwatch

Rank tracker · See pricing page

Nightwatch is a rank tracker that also tracks prompts across AI engines, priced by keywords tracked rather than team size. It tracks rankings on Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps, and every plan tracks AI answers on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overview. The Starter plan includes 500 keywords tracked daily plus 50 AI prompts and 1,500 AI answers per month.

Pros

  • The widest AI engine coverage of any rank tracker here, on every plan.
  • Tracks search engines beyond Google, including YouTube and Bing.
  • Unlimited team seats on every plan.
  • 14-day free trial with no card; yearly billing gives two months free.

Cons

  • Prices were shown in euros only when we checked, so confirm what you'll pay in your currency.
  • 50 AI prompts on the entry plan is enough for one brand's core questions, not a broad market study.

Best for: teams that want Google rankings and AI answer tracking in one tracker, with the whole team on it.

Google Search Console

Free Google tool · Free · Free

Google Search Console is Google's free, first-party view of how your site performs in Google Search. Its Performance report shows the queries your pages appear for, with clicks, impressions and position. Traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in that report under the Web search type, and all links in an AI Overview share the position the AI Overview occupies.

Pros

  • Free, with data straight from Google rather than a simulated search.
  • Covers every query you appear for, not only the keywords you chose to track.
  • URL Inspection shows crawl, index and serving details for any page.

Cons

  • Only your own verified site; no competitor tracking.
  • No separate filter for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and a follow-up question in AI Mode counts as a new query.
  • Positions are aggregated across all the searches that showed your page, not checked from one location you choose.

Best for: everyone, as a free baseline next to a paid tracker. Our Google rank checker guide explains how to read it.

Tracking AI answers

Rank trackers were built for a page of ten links. AI answers work differently. When someone asks ChatGPT "what's the best project management tool for a small agency", there's no position one. There's an answer that names some brands, cites some sources, and leaves others out. Ask again and the answer may change.

So AI tracking measures different things:

  • Mentions: how often your brand appears in answers to the questions your buyers ask.
  • Citations: whether the AI links to your site as a source, or to a competitor or a review site.
  • Share of voice: how often you appear compared with competitors across a set of prompts.
  • Gaps: questions where competitors are named and you aren't.

Several rank trackers now add this on top of keyword tracking: Nightwatch on every plan, SE Ranking with 100 prompts on Core, AccuRanker through AccuLLM, Mangools with 5 prompts, and Semrush through its AI Visibility toolkit. Bing Webmaster Tools, which is free, now reports how often your site is cited in Microsoft Copilot and Bing's AI summaries.

If AI answers are your main concern rather than an extra, a dedicated tool usually goes further. Our AI rank tracker guide explains how tracking AI answers works and what to look for, and the best AI visibility tools compares the dedicated trackers on price, engines and cadence.

Free rank tracking options

You can track rankings without paying, with limits:

  • Google Search Console: free and first-party, covering every query your site appears for. The best free option for your own site, though it can't track competitors.
  • Bing Webmaster Tools: free, with Bing search data and an AI Performance report on Copilot citations.
  • Semrush free plan: 1 demo project and 10 reports per day, enough to try Position Tracking.
  • Mangools free account: limited access to the toolkit, enough to see whether it suits you.
  • Free trials: SE Ranking and Nightwatch both offer 14 days with no card, enough to compare two trackers side by side on your own keywords.

Questions

What is the best rank tracker?
It depends on volume and budget. AccuRanker suits thousands of keywords tracked daily, Wincher is a low-cost daily tracker, and Nightwatch tracks Google and six AI engines on every plan.
Is there a free rank tracker?
Google Search Console is free and shows the queries and positions for your own site, straight from Google. Semrush's free plan and the free trials from SE Ranking and Nightwatch let you try a full tracker at no cost.
Should I track rankings daily or weekly?
Daily tracking shows the effect of a change within a day and suits active campaigns. Weekly tracking is enough for steady monitoring; Ahrefs Rank Tracker, for example, updates weekly on every plan.
Can a rank tracker track ChatGPT and AI Overviews?
Some can. Nightwatch tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overview on every plan, and SE Ranking tracks 100 AI prompts on its Core plan. AI answers have no positions, so these tools measure mentions and citations instead.
What is the difference between a rank tracker and an AI rank tracker?
A rank tracker records where your pages rank in search results for keywords. An AI rank tracker asks AI assistants your buyers' questions and records whether your brand is mentioned and your site cited.
